Requirements:

  • BS in data science, machine learning, computer science, statistics, or related highly quantitative discipline with three (3) years of experience or equivalent combination of training or experience; or MS in data science, machine learning, computer science, statistics, or related highly quantitative discipline with one (1) year of experience; or PhD in data science, machine learning, computer science, statistics.
  •  Willingness to complete modest travel to various locations to support the SEI’s overall mission.
  • You will be subject to a background investigation, and you must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  •  Deep understanding of statistical modeling techniques and advanced data analytics
  • Proficient with at least one mathematical/statistical programming package (e.g., R, python numpy/scipy/pandas, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Innovative and inquisitive with ability to imagine novel analytical solutions to problems
  •  Expertise in one or more of the following: machine learning techniques (e.g., K-means, SVM, neural networks), data visualization, natural language processing, AI engineering, digital forgery, large language models
  • Thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment
  •  Strong communication skills

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in predictive modeling, data science, or machine learning
  • Experience applying software engineering techniques in solution development
  • Experience in cybersecurity is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts and grow into new areas of work
  • Experience or knowledge of generative AI and large language models would be beneficial, but not required
  • Experience supporting test and evaluation for large-scale government research programs is a plus
