Overview:

Algorithms group at MSR (Microsoft Research) Redmond is looking for researchers to contribute to several ambitious projects aimed at advancing the state of the art in deep learning with a particular focus on differentially private learning, diffusion models, and quantization of deep learning models. Applicants should have a demonstrated ability for independent research, a firm academic publication record, and hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.

Microsoft Research is a unique environment that offers one of the largest networks of world-class researchers across eight labs around the world. If you are passionate about research and engineering in deep learning, privacy, image modeling, and NLP, we urge you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Research to advance the state of the art in deep neural networks (e.g., increased context lengths, better attention mechanisms), image models, natural language processing, and algorithms for private learning.
  • Set your research agenda and collaborate with other researchers and engineers, to achieve breakthroughs in the field.
  • Build proof of concepts that can ultimately evolve for deployment in production for billions of users.
  • Contribute to and apply research that advances Microsoft products.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Well-established research track record of publications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Ability to define your research agenda.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and work as part of a team.
  • Solid understanding of the internals of deep learning tools, libraries, and frameworks.
  • Exposure to language modeling.
  • Familiarity with differential privacy for machine learning (e.g., Opacus library)
