Robert Kahn Crypto AI Innovations: Work in Crypto and AI

Robert Kahn is the co-creator of the Internet. He has been a steady presence since its beginning. His resume extends beyond the creation of the Internet, with his work suggesting modern concepts like AI agents and blockchain. In a recent interview with TechCrunch, Kahn shared his visions on how the landscape of technology hasn’t changed much since the 70s.

Kahn is colloquially known as Bob. He was recently awarded the IEEE Medal of Honor. He articulated his concerns about the potential misuse of the Internet from the very beginning. However, in the early days, the Internet was a combined effort among researchers who knew each other, and there were few issues.

Kahn also discussed the concept of mobile programs, or “know bots”. These were designed to perform tasks for users on the Internet, such as making airplane reservations or checking emails. Unluckily, the idea was put on the back burner due to cybersecurity threats.

Despite this, Kahn’s work led to the development of the digital object architecture. It is a concept that has found significance in the world of cryptocurrency. Kahn’s anticipation and advanced ideas continue to influence the tech world, proving that everything old is indeed new again.

In the mid-1960s, Kahn began thinking about how computers with different operating systems could talk to each other across a network. He didn’t think much about what they would say to one another, though. He was a hypothetical guy, on leave from the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a stint at the nearby research-and-development company Bolt, Beranek, and Newman (BBN). He simply found the problem interesting.

Kahn ended up “working on it” for the next half-century. And he is still involved in networking research today. It is for this work on packet communication technologies—as part of the project that became the ARPANET and in the foundations of the Internet—that Kahn is being awarded the 2024 IEEE Medal of Honor.
