DESCRIPTION

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The incumbent will apply advanced systems infrastructure concepts and campus, medical center, or Office of the President or institutional objectives to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. They will select methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to obtain results, give presentations to associated teams and other technical units, and evaluate new technologies including performing moderate to complex cost/benefit analyses. The incumbent may lead a team of systems/infrastructure professionals.

As a technical system and cloud administration expert for the Sherlock Division, the incumbent will evaluate, design, install, manage, and maintain a large installation of enterprise systems running Windows in support of both productivity and research computing at the San Diego Supercomputer Center and Sherlock Division. They will work with critical data systems to lead the effort to deliver a platform for the Sherlock Division, spanning requirements around FISMA, HIPAA, CMMC, and CUI-compliant projects and research. The work content includes all aspects of systems management, enterprise networking, cloud deployment and automation, security, compliance, and configuration management for building the cyberinfrastructure needed to support the program. The incumbent will also be responsible for making technical recommendations related to computing hardware, network components (switches, routers, firewalls, etc.), operating systems, cloud services, and software architectures.

The Systems and Cloud Administrator is a member of the Azure Solutions & Systems team and is primarily responsible for a broad range of activities in support of driving innovation within the core competencies of the division. They will provide expert knowledge of public cloud computing platforms including AWS and Azure Government. The incumbent will be responsible for performance by monitoring, maintaining, administering, developing, and testing computing, network, and application components related to large, complex computing platforms used within the Sherlock Division. They will work with researchers on strategies, and then translate strategies into architectural goals. Additionally, they will confer with the Sherlock Division leadership to achieve consensus on technical architectural direction and analyze and propose new systems and technologies. The incumbent will balance the workload across multiple Sherlock Division programs/projects and develop and maintain a disaster recovery plan for systems as well as a data recovery plan in the event of a natural disaster. The incumbent will need to exhibit technical mastery of enterprise system management, cloud computing, network architecture, operations and security, Windows operating systems, emerging computing technologies and architectures, and the interrelationship of all. They will also provide support to the development of multi-cloud computing infrastructure per the vision of the Sherlock Division.

Additionally, the incumbent will leverage public cloud platforms to orchestrate the necessary micro-services to provide fit-for-purpose solutions that support big data, analytics, and data science use cases, work closely with internal and customer teams to create migration and testing plans for their existing applications utilizing standard cloud services that maximize automation and focuses on infrastructure as code methodology, as well as explore new technologies and patterns to see how they can be used to improve our code base and work with teams to vet and implement the new designs and enhancements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  2. Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users, and dependent/related functions. Expert in cross-platform OS and application integration (Linux/Windows).
  3. Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing most complex server-based software. Demonstrated experience with HIPAA NIST 800-66, CUI NIST 800-171, and FISMA NIST 800-53 regulations and systems management protocols, including expertise in designing and implementing controls compliant with DOD and NIST Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  4. Extensive knowledge and technical expertise with the Microsoft Active Directory, Windows computing/network environments, and Windows scripting languages.
  5. Extensive experience administering DNS Servers; LDAP (Windows Active Directory including Domain Controllers), PK Architecture, 2-factor Authentication (including RSA appliances and Azure AD), Web proxies, and SMTP servers.
  6. In-depth experience with Cisco, Fortigate, and Juniper firewall devices.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
  • Must be able to work on call during non-standard hours.

Annual Full Pay Range:

$101,200 – $192,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent:

$48.47 – $92.05
